Argyle Business Centre launch Baroness May Blood Bursaries

Applications are now open for The Baroness May Blood Bursaries which were launched at Argyle Business Centre this morning. May Blood was a founding director and remained so until her passing last October. The bursary was established in her name by Argyle Business Centre to provide financial assistance to students in North Belfast who are going into higher or third level education.

John Simpson, Director at Argyle Business Centre, dies age 90

I’m sure you’ve all heard by now about the passing of fellow Argyle Director John Simpson.
I was very saddened by the news, particularly as John had been so pleased to recently move into a one floor apartment, with no stairs, and a fantastic view overlooking Belfast Lough at Troopers Lane, Newtownabbey.
We recruited John to the Argyle cause back in 2011, and he was a keen advocate of our Phase 3 expansion. Whilst the Hotel Project had difficulty with raising Finance, I’m sure John would be pleased with the incoming use by the Vault Artists Collective, and ArtEZ University of Arnhem.
I will miss him at Argyle Meetings, his dry wit, and his taking to task of our Auditors at the presentation of Annual accounts, some of whom he had taught as students. He definitely cut a trail, and I feel lucky to have shared time with him.  Drennan McBride, CEO

Update on Shankill Mission

As CEO of Argyle Business Centre, I am pleased to announce that we have entered a partnership with The Vault Artist Studios for their meanwhile occupation of The Shankill Mission Building 110-120 Shankill Road, to help bring it back to public use. We are very excited about the new energy and enthusiasm the arts will bring to the area, and The Vault, a very outgoing and outlooking organisation, are keen to strengthen links with the community in the Shankill.
This project will also link very closely with Argyle’s hosting of two cohorts of student placements from ArtEZ University of the Netherlands. An Undergraduate Programme of 9 students from February to end of March 2023, and a Postgraduate Masters Programme of 10 students from start of March to end of June 2023. Whilst initially ‘hosted’ in Argyle, both cohorts of international students are matched up with local community groups for their placement time in Belfast, and their individual work with these community works will form a significant component of their final academic award. Exciting times in the Shankill!..  Drennan McBride, CEO
